Hello Panna!! (updates From Szetoo Yu Ming)

It was on 8th January 2024 that our auditor, Szetoo Yu Ming, called me to ask if I knew of any clinic that could help Panna, a neutered alley cat. Panna was discovered to have had two injured hind legs, probably sustained when Szetoo and his wife had travelled back to their hometown.

Szetoo had taken Panna to a vet, and was advised to have him euthanised. Of course Szetoo could not bear to do that.

Gangrene had already set in by then and Szetoo was looking for another vet who would be willing to do the amputation to save Panna’s life.

I immediately suggested our personal vet, and Panna was taken there for an evaluation. Our vet examined both legs and indeed gangrene had already set in and was moving upwards. Amputation was the only option to save Panna’s life. The double amputation would cost around RM4000.

We immediately started fundraising for Panna. Szetoo said he would personally pay RM2000. So we only had to raise the balance. Our fundraising exceeded the required sum, thanks to the generosity of all the friends whom I contacted and also our readers.

The amputation was a success and Panna was discharged soon after. We paid the balance of the bill and used some to purchase food and medical supplies for Panna. Szetoo donated the rest of it back to AnimalCare’s reserve fund.

And how is Panna now?

Well, take a look for yourself….4 months down the road!

Panna can move around by himself and uses the litter box too. He is, of course, totally indoors and has been adopted by Szetoo’s second daughter, Weishya. So Panna lives with Weishya now.

All of Szetoo’s three daughters absolutely loves cats! His eldest daughter even has an instagram account for her shop cats and they have a large following!
