THE SAD STORY OF "MORK"

THE SAD STORY OF “MORK”… Gill got a call this week from a European man to say that a dog outside the “Catch” restaurant in Surin Beach needed euthanizing! She asked him why & was told he had been attacked & that all down 1 side of the dog there were open wounds. Gill explained that we do not euthanise animals without a vet seeing them, trying to save them is our top priority. At the end of the day it would be our vets decision, if that decision needed to be made.

Gill set off straight away with dog catcher (Khun Nok) & but the dog was nowhere to be seen. Gill called the man who’d resported the dog see if he could come & find the dog,(who it turned out worked for “Twin Palms” who own “Catch”). We found the dog & he was in a very poor state. No wounds down the side as we’d been told, but so weak he could hardly walk. Whilst Nok picked him up Lee (South AFrican lady) told us she had been asking the staff at the restuarant to help the dog all day, & no one cared. In the end she made the staff member get in touch with Soi Dog. Lee was very scrared we would euthanise the dog, so we we told her we would do our very best to help him & that like 99% of hotels they don’t care about the animal & just want rid of it especially one in such poor condition which upsets their paying guests.

We’ve called the dog “Mork” & as it turned out we already have medical records on him as he’s been in for treatment of blood parasite before. He has a severe mouth infestation that is so bad it made him stop eating with the pain. His teeth will all have to come out as they are all loose & the gums are maggot infested. He as a result has severe septicemia & we worked on him for a couple of hours after getting back to the shelter, the septicemia is quite advanced but we will do our best to help him pull through.

Gill says: “By Lee’s actions we have hopefully saved Mork’s life, but if we fail then we have stopped his pain & believe me he was in severe pain! I just don’t understand people, he did not get like this in 5 minutes but over a period of time. The staff at “Catch” & “Twin Palms” all know what we do & how to get in touch with us, yet they chose to do nothing. The only reason we were called was to pacify a good customer. No mention of helping the dog – all he wanted was to get rid of the dog so you could no longer see it. All these guy’s care about is MONEY not the suffering of these poor animals.

Mork is now eating ok & looking much happier & is responding to the antibiotics, so looking promising, but not completely out of the woods yet. His teeth will be removed once infection completely gone & he will stay here as he won’t be able to fend for himself properly. Today, he was out side getting some fresh air & so things are looking better, fingers crossed………….. Gill x

Mork desperately needs sponsors to support him while he’s receiving treatment & for his future stay here at Soi Dog. Once recovered, he will spend the rest of his days here at the shelter. Help make Mork’s future brighter by considering sponsoring him or one of the many other dogs at Soi Dog TODAY! http://www.soidog.org/en/sponsor-a-dog-or-cat/Source: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=371011122940629&set=a.370375496337525.75720.108625789179165&type=1
