Medical Subsidy For 8 Distemper Puppies (Sharon Elizabeth Tan Tai Chings)

These would be the 14 puppies rescued by Sharon Tan. Apparently, they came down with distemper and 4 passed on. One was adopted by Joseph Iruthiam whose bill we have already reimbursed with a subsidy (see previous link).

There is another subsidy claim for the medication for the remaining 8 surviving puppies.

The photos below were taken after treatment. All are well now.

As per our policy, we do not cover certain testkits and boarding, so we have paid out a claim of RM343.00 for the medication for these 8 puppies.

The reason we do not cover certain testkits is that we have been told that the parvo and distemper testkits are often unreliable and our vets prefer to look for symptoms. Once a dog displays symptoms suggestive of parvo or distemper, the dog will be treated for those symptoms.

In our experience, Wendy died of distemper but the testkit showed a negative result. Sean survived distemper like a breeze (only had a slight cough) but the testkit was positive. Our policy does not cover “unnecessary treatment” and this includes the use of testkits as we need to be accountable to donors’ money.

As in this case, all the puppies came down with distemper. We cannot over-emphasise the great importance of neutering street animals. Had these puppies not been rescued, they would have died an agonising death on the streets.

How much suffering is there on the streets?

How much can be prevented by neutering them?

CNRM, please.
