From: – Ilya Yablokov,

Last week in Tomsk (Russia) volunteers for animal rights discovered a private zoo where they found two bears and a dog that were contained in horrible conditions I attach the link to the web-page with photos for you to check:

http://gorod.tomsk.ru/bios/.

Two bears are contained in one small cage without food and water, while the dog is deprived of regular supply of food at all. The owner of the zoo, Sergey Starkov, had numerous problems with neighbours after their complaints to the police about the bad smell coming from Starkov’s premises. However, according to the local laws, Starkov has an official license for keeping animal at his premises. Recently, neighbours discovered that during the last winter the dog has been kept in the same cage with the goat and when the goat died of famine, the dog had to eat its remains to stay alive.

Currently, the activists are trying to feed the animals regularly and initiate the criminal case against Starkov, however, the local authorities are reluctant to their initiatives and tend to keep the situation as it is. The activists reached preliminary agreements with the zoos in Krasnoyarsk and Novokuznetsk to take the animals, but they are not able to transpport them to the zoos while Starkov has official permission.

Please help to initiate an international call of support of the animals. It seems that international attention might have a serious influence on the local authorities and they will do their best to cancel Starkov’s license and transfer the bears to the safe place.
The address of Mayor’s office is Lenina ave.,73, Tomsk, Russia, 634050. His e-mail is: mail@admin.tomsk.ru, name: Nikolay Nikolaychuk.

The address of local governor Sergey Zhvachkin (contacting whom is sometimes even more efficient since he is concerned about the image of Tomsk in the world): Lenina square,6, Tomsk, Russia, 634050.

Below is a video report of the local TV station that shows how horrible the situation in this place is.

Thank you in advance for your help and support.
Best wishes,
Ilya Yablokov
