Guess who emerged last night?

The first female river terrapin emerged late last night (15th Jan) to deposit a nest containing 8 eggs! She didn’t have an existing microchip, so we assigned her a new chip. We swiftly measured and weighed her (she weighed more than 25 kg!) before releasing it back into the river.

This event officially marks the beginning of the 2024 terrapin nesting season! 🎉 Our Terrapin Guardians will be patrolling 4 nesting banks this season. Hopefully we’re able to secure a record number of eggs for incubation with the increased collaboration with the local villagers 💪🏻
