⚠️Trigger Warning: This post contains images of injured cats that may be disturbing.
DON’T LET YOUR CAT TAKE THE FALL FOR YOU
There has been an alarming number of High-Rise Syndrome (HRS) cases, causing cats to sustain injuries due to falling from height.
In just three months between June and August, the SPCA investigated 24 confirmed cases of HRS. Of these, 4 cats died upon impact or shortly after the fall. The reality is even harsher considering that these are merely the cases the SPCA receives.
Such tragedies can be prevented by owners meshing their windows and gates.
Visit https://spca.org.sg/campaigns/hrs/ to learn how you can make your home secure for your cats while matching your budget and aesthetics. Even if you live near the ground floor, do not assume that a fall is harmless. In fact, the risk of injury may be greater since short distances do not give cats enough time to adjust their posture in the air for a safe landing.
While the photos in this post feature our survivors of HRS, not all victims are as fortunate. Some have passed on while others are left with a life of reduced quality: unable to eat and drink normally due to a cleft palate or shattered jaws, punctured lungs that may eventually collapse, and incontinence due to damaged pelvic nerves. Our cats should not pay for our negligence.
MESH UP, OR YOUR CAT MIGHT PAY THE PRICE!
