Woof, I’m Harpy! I am currently with AVS and not at SPCA.
It’s almost 5 months since I’ve been put up for adoption. I haven’t gotten as much interest as my friends, and the only family that visited me felt we didn’t make a good match.
While I’m a quick learner (watch me play fetch and do tricks 😉), I need more time and effort to warm up in new places and with unfamiliar people. Once I get to know you, I enjoy going on walks, learning new tricks, and the occasional neck/chest/head scratches. But prolonged physical contact isn’t my love language, and I don’t really like cuddles even with my favourite humans. I’m also not comfortable around fellow doggos so please help me avoid them if possible. My ideal family is one that doesn’t have other pets and is willing to continue the behavioural rehabilitation that my AVS guardians started. My AVS guardians will also provide close support to my fosterer/adopter. We’ll do this as a team!
Here’s the heartrending part: My guardians are getting increasingly worried because they have observed my reluctance to return to my kennel after walks, along with stress signals (e.g. lip licking, yawning, panting) when I’m left in the kennel alone. They feel that I may do better in a home than at the shelter, which is why they are calling out to fosterers while waiting for potential adopters. Might you be the one?
