Subsidised Mass Neutering Project “Potong Royong” Marks Successful Launch with Distinguished Guests and Promising Milestones, and Announces Plans for Expansion

The highly anticipated subsidised mass neutering project, “Potong Royong,” officially commenced on August 22, 2023, to address the critical issue of animals overpopulation. In just its third day of operation, the project has already achieved remarkable milestones.

The initiative, which aims to control the burgeoning stray animal population, has garnered widespread attention for its innovative approach and commitment to animal welfare. With the support of dedicated volunteers and local veterinarians, “Potong Royong” has set in motion a significant step toward curbing the challenges associated with stray cats.

Gracing the project’s launch were the esteemed presence of Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin and the Puan Hajah Noraini binti Roslan, Yang Dipertua, Majlis Perbandaran Klang. Their support and attendance underscore the importance of this initiative in the community.

Within its initial days of operation, the project has demonstrated its efficacy by successfully neutering over 270 cats, contributing substantially to the reduction of future feline births. In addition, over 100 cats have been provided with subsidised comprehensive services, including checkups, vaccinations, deworming, and deflea treatments. 

We’d like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors, both big and small, who have made this project possible. Their generosity has enabled us to take the first steps towards addressing this pressing issue continued. We also want to recognize the volunteer veterinarians, students and non-vet volunteers who have selflessly taken time off to contribute to this campaign. Their dedication is truly commendable.

The momentum of the project shows no signs of slowing down. As it progresses, “Potong Royong” is expanding its efforts to include dogs, offering the same subsidised services to dog owners from Friday to Sunday. This extension marks an important step in promoting responsible pet ownership and controlling the canine population.
