This Week In The Soidog20years Timeline, We Look B..

This week in the #SoiDog20Years timeline, we look back just a few years to 2019 🧡

🐈 The expansion of Soi Dog and its various programmes ramped up again in 2019. This included the completion of the first purpose-built cat hospital, alleviating the strain placed upon the former cat treatment facility as the number of cats needing help also grew.

🏥 With the help of a financial grant from the Jeanne Marchig Trust, and assistance with interior furnishings from Fondation Brigitte Bardot, the brand-new cat hospital opened in November 2019.

🎉 Other significant events during the year included the launching of two more mobile sterilisation teams, taking the total to seven; the neutering and vaccinating of 100,000 animals in a calendar year for the first time; another large flood rescue, this time in Ubon Ratchathani; and the launching of a petition calling for support from the Formula 1 group against the dog meat trade in Vietnam which over a million of you signed!

❌ F1 were due to hold their inaugural Grand Prix in the city of Hanoi in 2020 and, with vocal support from high-profile stars of the sport, we had hoped their voices would help. Unfortunately, the event became one of the many victims of the Covid-19 pandemic and was eventually cancelled.

🇰🇭 Also on the list of dog meat trade-related activities that year was Soi Dog’s involvement in neighbouring Cambodia where we supported local group End Dog Meat Cambodia with an in-country social media campaign speaking out against the trade.

🏡 Another successful year of core programmes saw 944 animals find new forever homes and almost 9,000 animals receive medical treatment.
