Some Tips On Home-Cooked Food (for Pets)
Dr Susanna gave me some really useful tips on the preparation of home-cooked food for pets. I’ve tested it out and it is spot-on!
This is especially for those who cannot cook every day and need to freeze some of the portions for the next few days.
1. Portions can be kept in the fridge, but no longer than three days. For my case, my brood absolutely will not eat even if it is stored in the fridge for one day!
So, I have to freeze.
2. Here’s the most valuable tip of all – when de-freezing or thawing, time it in such a way that you thaw the frozen food for EIGHT hours before feeding time. This is when the food is nicely thawed and at room temperature, and the cats love it! Anything more than eight hours, they will not eat it anymore. Cats are fussy; that’s the way they are!
3. Do not re-heat or warm up the food. They might not like it. Always thaw to room temperature. And in our Malaysian weather, that would be EIGHT hours, in a tightly covered container.
Hope the above tips help.
