2017 continued #SoiDog20Years 🧡
As Soi Dog attempted to pick up the pieces following the untimely death of Gill in February, it would have to look to the future.
The first steps were to launch two more visionary initiatives – and so, the community outreach and humane education programmes were conceived.
The community outreach programme (COP) was established to work in the community, educating and empowering locals to care for stray animals, and to enhance the support given to the network of volunteer community ‘feeders’ that Soi Dog had amassed.
The humane education programme was devised to complement and enhance the work being done with COP by targeting the next generation of young Thais through educational activities, with the long-term goal of placing animal welfare as a staple of the school curriculum.
Meanwhile, Soi Dog’s spay/neuter programme exceeded 50,000 animals for the first time in a calendar year; over 5,000 animals were provided with veterinary care; and almost 700 dogs and cats found loving homes through Soi Dog’s national and international adoption programmes.
