#DYK One of the pests to rice farming in Ba’ Kelalan, Sarawak, is the golden apple snail?
Golden apple snails usually attack the paddy seedlings aged below 20 days. Destroyed seedlings mean lower rice yields. To address this without using harmful pesticides, WWF-Malaysia helped some farmers to adopt the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method. By applying this method that plants paddy seeds on trays and controls the water level, it reduces the snail’s spread, especially to other paddy fields. 🐌🌾
