TACKLING THE ILLEGAL WILDLIFE TRADE

Positive to hear the response to the question [by Louis Ng] on whether #WildlifeCrimes will be included under the Organised Crime Act. If the review leads that to happen, it will better empower our enforcement agencies (NParks) with investigations and ultimately tackling the issue of #IllegalWildlifeTrade!

[ Good news for our wildlife 🎉 ]

I’ve been pushing hard to include wildlife crimes in the Organised Crime Act 2015 🙏🏻 That will give our enforcement agencies more powers to tackle wildlife crime and put a serious dent to the illegal wildlife trade.

I spoke up about this in Parliament again and I’m so glad Minister replied that, “The Ministry of Home Affairs, in consultation with the Ministry of National Development, is reviewing whether to include wildlife trade offences as serious offences in the Schedule of the Organised Crime Act 2015. We are studying whether there is a law-and-order need to do so, as well as the operational arrangements that need to be put in place. We aim to complete this review by early 2024, and will provide an update when ready”.
