This National Kitten Day, Wed Like To Share The He..

This National Kitten Day, we’d like to share the heartwarming story of little Gavin, as told by Soi Dog staff member Cecilia who rescued, fostered and then adopted him!

“I found Gavin in February last year. He was so small and fragile, sitting in the middle of the road helplessly looking around and waiting for someone to rescue him. Bikes and cars were driving past him, but no one stopped.

I stopped to check on him and asked around if anyone had seen this kitten before. He was about five weeks old. No one seemed to know anything about him and he looked extremely sick, so I took him home with me.

He had severe cat flu and a flea infestation on his back. His right eye was infected and painful. After giving him a bath and cleaning his eyes, he fell asleep in my lap. I brought him to Soi Dog the next day where the vets said his eye was badly infected and had already lost its sight, so it had to be removed. However, he was too young to undergo the surgery immediately, so we had to wait until he reached 1kg while making sure his eye was cleaned daily.

During this waiting period, as I work at Soi Dog, I took him to work with me every day. He grew very close to everyone in the office, and they all love him.

Gavin reached the appropriate weight, so he underwent the surgery to remove his right eye. He recovered quickly and has been a happy boy ever since!

Gavin loves loves loves to eat, especially pizza crust, like a good Italian. We have to be careful when we have pizza otherwise his nose will end up in it! He also loves to run around in the garden. He also enjoys car rides.

Since he was a kitten, Gavin has always played fetch with my boyfriend, and they still do! He also carries his favourite feather toys to a safe place once he’s caught them. Gavin is a special cat, very bonded to both of us since the first day.

He always joins us on trips to Phi Phi island and beachside dinners. Whenever he is outside in the garden, I just call his name and he comes right back running and meowing – more of a dog than a cat if you ask me!

After a few months trying to befriend my other cat Puppu, he finally won her heart and they are now good friends – they play and groom each other. Though Gavin sometimes still gets his little paw on her face, but nothing a treat won’t help forget!”

To give a soi cat a loving home, please email our adoptions team at adoptions@soidog.org. A beautiful bond like Gavin and Cecilia’s awaits!
