Celebrating International Day of Families with the heartwarming story of soi dog Luna 💗

Luna was brought to the shelter in August 2021 after she caught a tick-borne disease that caused her to abruptly lose her vision. Her feeder noticed changes in her behaviour and alerted us before she could come to any harm. Unfortunately, Luna’s vision loss was permanent, and there was nothing our vets could do to restore it. For her safety, she remained in our care.

Luna’s shelter name was Taonarak, a term used in Thai to describe something or someone as “super cute”. We think you can see how she earnt such a name!

Just eight weeks after her arrival, a loving couple from Chonburi, Thailand, adopted Luna, welcoming her into their home with open arms. We recently received this lovely update from her mum:

“Luna is our precious baby. She’s a big chubby dog who acts like a small Chihuahua. She sleeps on us or sits in our lap. Due to her blindness, she can be easily spooked by little things around her, even a falling leaf!

Her sweet personality captures the attention of both humans and other dogs. She’s become popular among the boys in our neighborhood 😂 and she adores cats with all her heart.

Luna is a good girl. She never bites or destroys anything. However, she can be a bit cheeky sometimes. The moment she steps out of the house, she pretends to be deaf! No matter how loud we call her back, she completely ignores us! 😂 But when it comes to a car ride, as soon as she hears the click of our car unlocking, she’s ready and waiting next to the car before we even notice.

Luna loves her dad so much. If she had to choose between me and her dad, she wouldn’t take a second to think – her dad! We just love and cherish her as our own child. We wish we had met her sooner.”

Visit our website to meet some of our adorable adoptable dogs who are waiting for a home: https://www.soidog.org/adopt-a-dog. They can be adopted right here in Thailand like Luna or to the UK and other parts of Europe as well as the USA.
