Subsidy For Hercules, Rescued Kitten (Esther Cheah Suet Meis), Adopter Needed

We have subsidised RM88.50 for the medical bill of Hercules, rescued by Esther Cheah. Esther also needs an adopter for Hercules. If you can help, please contact Esther directly atcheahsm@gmail.com.
From Esther Cheah on 12th March:
Hi Dr. Chan,
I rescued a kitten from the market on Saturday and compared to the dogs at my office’s parking lot, this little fella needed urgent attention to his leg which was caked in dirt. So I brought him to the vet thinking that the wound was open and was dirty and only needed it cleaned. Planned to get the medical attention needed to clean the wound and put him back in the market to heal on its own.
Then when the vet checked turned out it was a makeshift bandage which just put on (probably after the kitten broke a leg or hurt it) and forgotten. So the wound was smelly and septic. After loud wailings from a pained kitten due to the rough cleaning up, the old bandage revealed a raw feet and puss built-up all around. I placed him into the vet’s care overnight while sourcing a better boarding with a vet in Kuchai Lama (I have heard to be tolerant and careful with strays too) after he has stabilized for a night.
Yesterday after paying for the treatment hospitalization and checking him out, I brought him as planned and the vet inspected the kitten. The new vet said that the wound would not heal completely because due to the lack of post injury care (contrary to the earlier vet who failed to explain this to me), the flesh had grown over the injury and the spot would always be raw unless surgery is done to trim the flesh (which would hurt dearly and need to put kitten under anesthetics) and put the skin over (almost impossible as the swollen flesh is too large to cover).
Nonetheless the vet said that she will try to do her best not to get to the point of surgery which may cost around RM200-300 but will need to hospitalize the kitten at her place while they give him treatment for the wound to reduce the size of the swelling. She said that hospitalization for the kitten including the treatment but excluding medication would be around RM20 a day, cheaper than if she charged me boarding separately from treatment which would be more than RM30 a day. She also offered to neuter him for free as her part for community work. She also viewed that if I release him back to the streets at this point, maggots may infest the wound and the kitten will not survive.
Dr. Chan, it is my honour to contribute to the earlier vet’s fees but I hope Myanimalcare can help with this round of hospitalization and the possible surgery that may take place as the possible medical cost is scaring me big time. Further, and with the kind vet explaining his condition I think medical attention is urgent thing in mind for this kid. Would you be able to help us?
I am also looking for a kind soul who can foster this tough little fella after he recovers. I have been going to facebook to find a fosterer for this kitten and have not been able to find a sincere person who can take care of this injured kid. At this point I’m thinking that since he is already neutered at the time he has recovered and no one can house him, should I release him back to the market? Although I would love to house him but with Brushy just starting to get comfortable and Kittee still not adjusting to the dog’s presence, I would hate to stress them out again with a new addition.
Regards
EstherCheah.
Updates:
Dear Dr. Chan,
The subsidy program is much much appreciated. Then can breath sigh of relief because kitten can get the much needed medical attention. The vet is constantly soaking his leg in a solution to get the scab to take over so hopefully there will be no need for surgery = less pain for kitten. I think he can be called Hercules because he’s so LOUD and strong.
Went to see Hercules last evening. He was all quite quiet before he saw me. Then he proceeded to subject me to a loud LOUD tirade on why he should be in the cage. Well, he does look like he needs a good wipe down. The consultant in attendance was saying that Herc will make lots of noises the moment he sees someone then quieten down after he stops moving, most probably complaining about the pain.
I’ll keep on going to the vet to monitor his progress.
I have much to learn on rescuing animals. Sometimes I also wish that someone would just take a big piece of land and convert it into an animal sanctuary like the Cat House on the Kings sort. Then my heart does not need to hurt every time I spot a hungry or injured stray, can just bundle them there to recuperate and to a warm warm new place to call home.
Thanks much.
Cheers!
Latest updates on 29th March (fosterer found, but now, adopter needed):
Hi Dr. Chan,
I have attached the bill for Hercules’ hospitalization and medication. It was hospitalization for all the days but the vet was kind enough to charge lesser for the last few days because he needed less medical attention. Have found a temporary fosterer and my cat’s cage has been given to house him.
Still need to find him adoptive family. My aunt is quite old and had only agreed because I had begged and begged around with not much results. My dad is not well and that leaves me less time than before to care for my pets.
I’ll send the form to you as soon as possible.
Attached is the after photo.
He’s an adorable kid, with lots of energy but he worried us since he was jumping around in the cage.
The scab has shrunk from 3 cm to 0.5cm. He should be alright soon.
Would anyone like to take me home?
Hercules needs a home, so let’s help him get one. He seems a very feisty kitten and is a survivor!
