Remember Marley The Doggo That Was Limping Around ..

Remember Marley – the doggo that was limping around on the streets with a huge lump on its side? We sent her to UPM where it was discovered that the lump was cancerous but the oncologist decided not to operate and the reasons given make sense, Hence, we will be taking care of Marley palliatively until her time comes. This is what was conveyed to us:
1. The vet at UPM decided not to proceed with the surgery for Marley after discussing with the oncologist and the surgeons.
2. The vet said if they proceed with the surgery, they have to remove the mass together with the rib cage and half of the diaphragm. Half of the lateral part of Marley will be removed.
3. There is no enough skin around the surgical area to stitch the wound back and it will cause a lot of pain to Marley. Marley may not be able to urinate or defecate after the surgery and it may get worse if there is any post-surgery infections.
4. The vet said the surgery will cause more harm than good to Marley and she has to endure a lot of pain if they proceed with the surgery.
5. Based on the current assessment on Marley, the vet said she is alert, active and not showing any symptoms of deterioration caused by the mass yet. They have advise us to give Marley palliative care and keep her comfortable.
