Again, we thought and believed that we have seen all but Mon’s case is something entirely new and perplexing to us. We rescued Mon after social media was full with requests to help her. She had severely injured hind legs and we admitted her first at Gasing and then at a veterinary clinic in Rawang. The Rawang vet noticed that Mon had a tendency to chew on her tail and hind legs when no one was looking. Because the wound was extensive in one of the hind legs – it had to be amputated. The wound on the other leg was drying-up but soon Moon started chewing on it as well. We readmitted her at Gasing where she was treated and we brought her back as her leg was healing. Then we noticed that she sometimes growled at her remaining hind leg. Mon managed to remove her e-collar and injured her remaining hind leg. We then sent her to Lian clinic where her leg was treated and we consulted a UPM vet who was an animal behaviourist. Apparently, Mon had some mental health issues which included self-hate. This was something mind blowing to us. She has been prescribed some meds to control her mood which we will be getting. Just when her leg had dried up well, she managed to remove her e-collar when the staff at Lian Clinic was not looking and chewed the leg that was healing into almost a pulp which even exposed some of the bone. The leg cannot be saved and Dr Lian will be amputating it. Mon now will not have both her hind legs and will have to be fitted with wheels to move around and would also have to be on e-collar and doggie ‘psychiatric’ medication for life. We are wondering if euthanasia is the way out for her or we if should continue caring for her? Please advise. We are also in need of funds to pay for her amputation, hospitalisation and mental health care medication. Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better

Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better is a canine welfare programme initiated by non-profit organisation Community Development and Integration Initiative (CDII).

MDDB's main activities revolve around rescuing dogs from the local council pounds as well as off the streets. Once they have been rescued, the dogs are vaccinated and neutered before being put up for adoption.
