Dogs Saved from Pound Where They Kill Eachother in the Kennels

Yesterday several dogs were rescued from a municipal pound where dogs were literally killing one another inside their kennels.

For years, Harmony Fund has been working to address the widescale neglect, corruption and outright abuse that takes place at municipal dog pounds throughout the Balkans. It’s a delicate matter, as the network of rescuers in our circle navigate the complex politics of each establishment and try to make changes without being banned from the premises. We don’t disclose specific locations because that could jeopardize the lives of the remaining dogs.

This scenario is sadly commonplace and while we assist rescue squads in bringing better food and evacuating as many dogs as possible – our primary aim is to cultivate reform that will change the system that victimizes hundreds of thousands of dogs each year.

We are asking for your help. Our next contribution to the rescue effort is needed very soon so that another van full of dogs can be brought to safety.
