MONITOR LIZARD AND TOAD GET STUCK IN #GLUETRAP
Glue traps are used to trap and kill “pests”, but often end up trapping other animals too. Ironically, the monitor lizards actually HELP to control populations of “pests” by predating on them or scavenging on dead animal matter too preventing other scavengers. No animal should go through the suffering on glue traps!
Snakes, monitor lizards and civets are examples of wild animals who eat certain animals for whom these sticky traps are laid. Presence of such predators is an indicator of a good population of their prey animals and food sources for the prey animals (in this case – insects and rats).
The monitor lizard survived and was released after cleaning, but the toad unfortunately did not make it. Stop using glue traps by addressing the root cause:
🏡 mesh up gaps in your home (drains, gutters, roof);
🗑️ clear your trash daily or use metal bins with secure lids;
🍜store food securely in rodent-proof metal containers; and
🐍 extend tolerance and compassion to our animal neighbours too.
Ask those who manage your estate to do the same and inform your pest control operator not to use glue boards/sticky traps
