The sweetest update from soi dog Sweetie 💗

Sweetie was rescued by Paw Patrol Cambodia in 2020 after being heartlessly dumped at a temple in Siem Reap. When the team found her, she was in poor condition, unable to walk or even stand. She was also at risk of being captured as part of the dog meat trade.

The Paw Patrol team soon realised that Sweetie needed specialised medical care that wasn’t available to them there, so they reached out to us.

Arrangements were made for Sweetie to make the journey to our shelter in Phuket, Thailand, where she received the required medical treatment which included extensive physiotherapy and hydrotherapy. She responded well and, in time, was able to walk and then run again! Her small size and unbelievably brave spirit earned her a reputation as “a tiny dog with the heart of a lion”.

A year later, Sweetie was chosen by our partner rescue Jack Russell Terrier Rescue Ontario (JRTRO) to join them in Canada where she soon found her forever home with their help. The JRTRO team shared the following update:

“After seeing Sweetie’s story of survival, perseverance and triumph over adversity, we couldn’t be anything other than touched and amazed by her bravery and fighting spirit!

We were very proud to accept this little heroine from Soi Dog Foundation, and when Sweetie made the long trip from Thailand to Canada, she was welcomed with open arms by her foster parents. Timid and frightened of this new experience, her foster parents worked hard to make Sweetie feel safe and secure in her changed environment. They provided Sweetie with a truly wonderful introduction to life in Canada with their loving care, for which we thank them!

We are very happy to report Sweetie is doing amazingly well. She has been successfully adopted into a lovely family with other dogs and is very well loved and happy. We get updates on her at least once a week showing a very healthy, happy girl living a happy, active and full life with her forever mom and dad, who are giving Sweetie everything a dog could want and more! She is now living in the “Great White North”, getting out and about visiting horse shows and running with her many pup siblings and friends.

Sweetie has truly found her perfect forever home, has come out of her shell and is enjoying life to the fullest. We are so grateful for this outcome!”

While we are now unable to adopt to Canada on account of the CFIA import ban, we are able to adopt to the USA, Europe and within Thailand.
