Today, We Received Two Calls From Different People..

Today, we received two calls from different people wanting to surrender their pets. One of them told us that he had adopted a female dog and was made to believe that it was already spayed. The dog ran out, got pregnant and gave birth to 9 puppies. Eight out of the nine puppies and the mother are with them and are 9 months old now. They want to surrender two out of the eight puppies and will be keeping the mother and six of the puppies. I told the owner that he has to neuter all of them or otherwise he is going to have a massive problem with having to probably deal dozens more puppies. Another man called to say that he wants to surrender two of his dogs that he has had since they were puppies because he was moving to an apartment. Both have not been neutered nor vaccinated. In the second case, it is clear cut irresponsibility – you must not adopt if you are not willing to do the necessary for your dogs. If we start taking in dogs from errant owners – we would be depriving space at our place for old and injured street dogs that truly need help. Rescuers must also ensure that they neuter the dogs that they give out for adoption. And never mislead your adopters into believing that your rescue has been vaccinated and neutered just because you want to get the doggo/s off your hands.
