Blender, Food Tales And Other Stuff

Yesterday, I made a huge blunder that cost me my beloved Braun blender…sobs.
I must have forgotten to check that the adapter wasn’t screwed on properly when I started to blend fruit juice with (of all things, turmeric (kunyit)!). Bright yellow liquid started flowing out from the bottom and to my horror, quickly stained my all-white kitchen solid surface top.
Kunyit stain is about the worse kind, I know, and after I stopped the blender and put everything into the sink to investigate, I realised the adapter was loose and worst of all, the rubber gasket had gone into the jug itself and got cut in half. Yes, the gasket was blended, too. Sobs…
Sobs….cut in half.
Kitchen top first, I thought. Save the kitchen top. So a quick search on the internet said to use baking soda. Rushed to the nearest shop and got a small bottle for RM1.20. Got home and started scrubbing slowly with the baking soda (plus a bit of water) and voila…would you believe it, all the bright yellow stains came off!!
Ding ding ding! One down.
Now, the rubber gasket….
I called Braun’s customer service….unfortunately, it took me five phonecalls and four complaints (which took 4 hours) before they finally could advise me that this unit has been discontinued, and that it would take them one week to enquire if they can get the stock from Singapore, and another month to get the stock from Singapore.
Hmm…that long?
Can I buy a new one, then?
Sorry, no stock.
My cats can’t wait that long for their food, especially when I’d just successfully converted everyone to homecooked, I’m not about to create a lapse again.
So, called Cathy. I know she’d just bought a new Electrolux blender and it comes with a glass jug as well.
Cathy told me where she got hers but she bought the last piece.
Rats!
Never mind, try Subang Parade.
So, off I went…
Here it is.
How is it compared with the Braun?
It is definitely comparable, just not a pretty as the Braun.
1. The jug is bigger.
2. It comes with a dry mill (to make crushed eggshells) and a stirrer.
3. The mouth of the jug is wider.
4. It is quieter (won’t drive the neighbours berserk).
5. It is more powerful (blends raw chicken neck well).
I got it for RM199 only. I hear it’s cheaper at some other outlets. I think for a glass jug, the price is more than reasonable.
And best of all, the spare parts are available in the shop within walking distance from my house!!
I’ll still get my Braun gasket, if the stock is available…in a month’s time.
By the way, now I blend cooked food with a whole bowl of raw meat and neck pieces so that the gang gets raw bone marrow as well.
And a side story, just two days ago, I was almost killed on the road by a moronic driver. I was so sure I was going to die as he had rammed into my lane at breakneck speed, causing me to swerve to the left only to have a huge truck coming right from behind. At that moment, what did I think about? Let’s see, all I could think about was, “Rats! I haven’t solved my website problem yet, I’m going to leave a mess for my committee to handle. Nope, can’t die yet.”
Didn’t die…luckily.
Talk about life being uncertain, when one encounters such things, it rings true. And last week, I was on the 6th floor of my college building when the fire alarm went off. I grabbed my stuff and fled down the stairs. Turned out to be a false alarm but what if there was really a fire?
When one encounters such things, a broken gasket seems very trivial, doesn’t it?
You’ll see why I never leave things unfinished for the day.
