Cola, a well-known soi dog and the much-loved pet of our co-founder John Dalley, made the UK press this week after being fitted for a brand-new pair of prosthetics.
The article continues:
“A British rehabilitation clinic welcomed rescue dog Cola from Thailand earlier this month and measured him for a new set of front legs.
The former stray suffered horrific injuries in 2016 after a man hacked his legs off with a sword in Bangkok as “punishment” for the then-six month old puppy chewing a pair of shoes. A vet was able to save his life and he was subsequently rescued by an animal welfare charity and given carbon fibre prostheses.
However, due to years of wear and tear on the beaches near his home on Phuket, Cola’s false legs became worn down and uncomfortable.
His current owner sought out expertise in the UK and settled on the Pace Rehabilitation clinic in Bredbury, near Stockport, Greater Manchester, which traditionally helps humans.
Toby Carlsson, founder of Pace Rehabilitation, said Cola was “the first canine we have treated”.
His lightweight blade runner limbs will be replaced by more “sturdy” custom-made prostheses which will be more durable.
John Dalley, the owner and co-founder of Soi Dog Foundation which rescued Cola, said: “New prosthetics will make a huge difference to his life, enabling him to go for longer walks along the beach without getting tired and live his life like other dogs.”
