This is Thai’s journey from a dog meat trade survivor in Thailand to a much-loved pet in the USA.❤
Thai (formerly known as Bashful) came from a shelter in the northeast of Thailand where he and thousands of other dogs rescued from the illegal dog meat trade were housed. He was one of a number of dogs transferred to the Soi Dog shelter in the south in 2016.
His sweet, loving nature caught the attention of our partner rescue Southern Oregon Humane Society (SoHumane), and he was chosen to join them in early 2017. It wasn’t long after his arrival that he was snapped up by the perfect family!
Thai’s mum recently got in touch to share this heartwarming update:
“I can’t believe our sweet boy came into our lives almost 6 years ago! It’s hard to imagine life without him now. So fun to reflect on our time together. ❤️
When I went to visit Thai (then Bashful) at the Southern Oregon Humane Society in January of 2017, he captured my heart immediately. Even though he was aloof in the play yard that day, there was something about him that made me sure he would be a perfect fit for our family. My husband came back with me the next week, and we brought him home on January 31, 2017.
The first few months were a learning experience for all three of us. Thai was suffering from severe separation anxiety, and he was still a bit unsure of my husband and I. Slowly but surely, we started to gain Thai’s trust, and he started to show us his playful, loving, silly self.
It’s incredible to think how much we’ve all grown together over the past 6 years. While he still has the best parts of himself, Thai has come a long way. He no longer suffers from separation anxiety, and spends much of his day sleeping in one of his four beds (five if you count his patio cot).
Some of Thai’s favorite things include walking 3-4 times per day, basking in the sunshine in the backyard, riding in the car with his head out the window, and visiting our local pet store for some of his favorite treats.
Thank you, Soi Dog, for giving us the opportunity to bring Thai into our family. He’s our whole world, and we couldn’t imagine life without him.”
