Maengern has been adopted by her foster family! 🏠
Maengern was brought to the Soi Dog shelter in 2019 with her mum Maepetch and her two sisters Maethong and Maeploy after our animal rescue team found them struggling to survive on the streets. Their eyes were sore and inflamed, and they were suffering from varying degrees of blindness. Sadly, some of them had lost their vision entirely, including Maengern.
All four of their names begin with “Mae”, which means “mother” in Thai, and are followed by different types of gemstones. “Maengern” in Thai means “silver mother” – precious, unique and bright just like her!
After close to two years at the shelter, Maengern was chosen by our amazing partner rescue Wagmor Pets in Los Angeles, USA. One of our Soi Dog board member’s, Elizabeth, offered to foster Maengern and ended up adopting her! Elizabeth sent us the following update on Maengern (now Mae):
“We are very excited to give you Mae’s first update! To begin, she is doing very well, and we absolutely adore her. From the beginning, learning of the Mae family and that most were blind immediately gave them a very special place in my heart. I was so happy to hear Maengern and Maepetch were flown to our LA partner rescue Wagmor, one step closer to finding their forever homes.
As time went on and Maengern wasn’t adopted, we took it as a sign. The wonderful folks at Wagmor let us know Mae would do best living with a pack, we knew she needed to come home to us. Our pack included two dogs, five cats and two kids.
Over the first weeks, it was beautiful to see Mae move from being cautious to curious and then confident. She has learned the layout of our home and backyard and is able to navigate them very well. She absolutely loves sitting in the backyard listening to the birds and basking in the sun. She has found her favorite chair in the house to lounge and sleep on. She loves her toys and will get them out of her basket. Sometimes she just gets excited playing and give a little yip! One of our other dogs, Ozzy, is 16 and doesn’t see or hear well so occasionally they bump onto each other. He and Mae follow our dog Faith, a tripawd, if she jumps up thinking something exciting is going to happen. Mae and the kitties get along just fine. James likes to run up against her.
Mae loves going on walks to the neighborhood “bone bars” and will put up a little resistance when it’s time to go inside, she wants to keep going! I’ve learned she loves to be picked up and snuggled and will lay her head on my shoulder. My husband says she opens her little mouth as if she is smiling. Our family couldn’t be happier and think she feels the same. It seems as if she’s been here longer than she has because she fits right in.
We are ever grateful to each and every person that were part of the Mae family’s journey and hope they all know she is happy and cared for member of our family. It’s been a dream of mine to have a soi dog and it just goes to show good things come to those who wait. We feel very blessed.”
