CORNEAL ULCER
Residents noticed that their community cat’s eye was looking a little inflamed for the past few days. They decided to give SPCA a call when he seemed in distress being unable to open one side of his eye. Upon further examination by our vets at #SPCASingapore Community Animal Clinic, the poor fellow had a 3mm deep scratch on his corneal AND a small (1mm) foreign body stuck into the surface of his eyeball! Anyone would’ve been in great distress being in that condition.
He was then treated with eyedrop serum made from his own blood, which helps to combat the breakdown/degradation of the eye’s surface during certain bacterial infections. As his condition requires a long course of treatment, he is currently recuperating at his fosterer’s home with lots of love and attention! Affectionately named Mr Croaker due to his very unique loud meow that sounds like a cross between a duck’s quack and a frog’s croak. You HAVE to hear to it to believe it. 🦆🐸
While his affected eye will always have some degree of blurred vision due to the scarring post-healing, his other eye is thankfully healthy and functional!
Pet owners please remember that it is crucial for eye issues in animals to be examined by a vet immediately as it can deteriorate rapidly. Swift action will give your pets the best chance of preserving their vision.
