This is Gundohing, a flanged-male orangutan spotted in Bukit Piton Forest Reserve, Sabah. Gundohing is one of over 300 orangutans found at Bukit Piton. Forest restoration efforts at Bukit Piton have supported orangutan survival in its degraded habitat by providing more trees for food, nesting and travelling.
The work in Bukit Piton and other WWF restoration sites is one element of a bigger, more holistic approach to conservation in Sabah. Forest restoration comes under the Restore pillar of the Sabah Landscapes Programme (SLP). Through its Living Landscapes Approach, SLP builds on three pillars: Protect (protection of forests, wildlife and watersheds); Produce (production of sustainable palm oil and timber); and Restore (restoration of degraded habitats and ecological corridors).
