In Our Fight To End The Dog And Cat Meat Trade In ..

In our fight to end the dog and cat meat trade in every last country on Earth, why is our initial focus on the Philippines? 🇵🇭

The trade as it exists today in the Philippines is reminiscent of how it once was in Thailand.

When Soi Dog embarked on a successful fight against the trade in Thailand in 2011, it was already illegal, as it is in the Philippines, but it continued nonetheless, with butchers and traders moving in the shadows, just as they do in the Philippines.

In collaboration with the Thai authorities, and supported by animal lovers like you around the world, we were able to intercept trucks, rescue and rehome thousands of animals, open up dialogue with the government and ultimately put an end to the trade once and for all.

This is exactly how we are tackling the trade in the Philippines with our partner Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF).

AKF have an established working relationship with the Philippine National Police who join them on raids of restaurants and slaughterhouses and bring to justice the butchers and traders behind them.

The organisation also operates a rescue centre where survivors of the trade can rehabilitate and eventually be rehomed.

With the right groundwork already in place, there is a very real possibility that together we can make Philippines the next country to put an end to this barbaric trade: https://links.soidog.org/ending-the-trade-together
