📢 Raise your voice for rescue dogs! Help us fight Canada’s dog import ban 📢
In a matter of weeks, innocent dogs from over 100 countries, including Thailand, will be denied entry into Canada under a ban by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA).
This is devastating news, and we must act now if we are to have any chance of successfully challenging it. Here’s how to help:
🇨🇦 Supporters in Canada, please register your objections with your local Member of Parliament. Find and contact your local MP here: https://links.soidog.org/Contact-your-MP
🇨🇦🌎 Supporters in Canada and worldwide, please register your objections to the CFIA. Contact details and easy-to-follow suggestions of what to include and what not to include in your correspondence can be found here: https://links.soidog.org/Contact-the-CFIA
The CFIA cites concerns over canine rabies as its reason for the ban, which will come into effect on September 28, 2022. However, as John mentions here, such an outright ban is unduly harsh when there are alternative measures that have been proven to prevent the spread of rabies while still allowing the safe import of dogs, such as titer testing.
The USA recently put these measures in place, revising a similar import ban and taking a positive step forwards. Canada, meanwhile, has taken a huge step backwards.
Please share your concerns with the CFIA and/or your MP today. There is great power in our collective voice.
