In Loving Memory Of Rocky. This Afternoon, We Said..

In Loving Memory Of Rocky🌺🌷

This afternoon, we said an extremely sad but peaceful goodbye to Rocky, a semi-feral Ginger stray cat that lived in the basement car park at SetiaWalk Puchong. The diagnosis couldn’t have been much worse: complete spinal fracture and lung complications meaning general anaesthetic was risky.

Every cat deserves a life as free of stress, hunger, danger, fear and pain as possible – and to be at least a little bit loved. It’s so much easier to get help for a cute kitten, but that’s what big, semi-feral boy, Rocky really thought he was. This big lad had mellowed so much since we were able to trap and neuter him a year ago, and later even shared his plate of food with former arch enemy, Jaws, another semi-feral stray. They are both a prime example of the success of tnr: very obviously very fertile, alpha males who came into the area seeking females to procreate with and, pre-neuter, very successfully so! They both hated each other and humans. But even Rockstar had stopped punching with his claws out and more often than not, greeted me by rolling over to show us is ever growing massive belly.

This odd couple have been making us feeders laugh, with their burgeoning ‘bromance’ and have been living as comfortable a life as we could hope for them in the basement car park, which is obviously not ideal, but here we are.

And then on Monday 11th July – Hari Raya Haji – devastatingly, we were informed that Rocky had been presumably hit by a car.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t until probably many hours later that we were told and so it was left until then and to us to take poor Rocky to out of hour’s hospital, after 8pm on a public holiday. If only the person responsible would have acted earlier, then Rocky’s pain could have been lessened… but here we are… we bid a sad farewell to this larger than life character (metaphorically and literally – he weighed in at just over 8kg!) a real special ‘big softie’ at heart.

We gave him strokes and pats as we spoke softly to him, telling how much he was loved, until the moment he left us. We’re helping Jaws mourn his friend with plenty of food and even more pats.

RIP dear Rocky. You will forever be in our hearts.
