Koulia was terrified when we first met him. He’d probably never felt kindness from a human before. 😢 Once he was rescued from the streets and examined, it was clear that he had been suffering for quite some time. He was diagnosed with proptosis, which is a protrusion of the eye ball. To make things even worse, it had become necrotic. Imagining the pain he was in, it’s no surprise that he was so frightened.

Once his health had stabalised, he was strong enough to have surgery to remove his eye. Despite his fear at first, Koulia has been the bravest boy and has adjusted to life with just one eye remarkably well. Over time, he has learnt to trust humans. It’s incredible to see what kindness and patience can do – just look at that beautiful smile of his. 😍
