Soi Dog Foundation Is Extremely Disappointed At Th..

Soi Dog Foundation is extremely disappointed at the announcement by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) that dogs from countries deemed to be high risk for rabies will no longer be permitted entry into the country from September 28, 2022 🇨🇦

This includes Thailand, where Soi Dog is based.

While we fully support and appreciate the importance of implementing stringent disease control measures, we believe that the CFIA’s measures are unduly harsh. Such a blanket ban unjustly penalises reputable rescue organisations like Soi Dog who have an unblemished track record of importing healthy dogs to various countries worldwide for close to two decades.

All dogs imported by Soi Dog into Canada come from the southern island of Phuket, Thailand’s first province to be recognised as rabies free. They are disease-free, parasite-free and present absolutely no health risk whatsoever to humans or other animals. Yet through no fault of their own, these dogs are now being denied the chance to find the loving homes they deserve.

As you may be aware, the USA implemented a similar, though temporary, ban on the import of dogs in July 2021. With your support, Soi Dog fought and challenged this ban at the highest level. It has since been revised, with sensible provisions, such as titer testing, now in place which allow the safe import of healthy rescue dogs once more. (We will be sharing more on this soon.)

We are committed to achieving the same in Canada by whatever means necessary, and we know you will stand with us as we do so.
