When We Set Mddb Up In 2008, It Was Aimed At Propa..

WHEN we set MDDB up in 2008, it was aimed at propagating a humane method of clearing the streets of strays. We understood that the local councils will continue to catch as long as there are complaints and as long as dog catching is a money churning activity.

The dog catching companies actually bid for open tenders from the local authorities to get the lucrative contracts. When MDDB was formed none of the groups currently present were there.

Soon after a mathematics lecturer formed her NGO which raised money for independent rescuers to carry out TNRM. Years later another group was also formed towards that direction. That is how it should be.

As for MDDB, we carried out mass TNRM exercises and took in puppies, mothers and litters as well as injured dogs.

Our focus was clearly on reducing the numbers through spay/neuter. Whatever dogs we removed from the pounds were given to us free with the understanding that these dogs will be neutered and managed when released.

Then came various other groups and the local councils found out that they can actually make money through bailouts.

The trend continues and this has stalled the TNRM agenda. There is also a new trend of feeding without managing the dogs or spaying and neutering them.

This has created a boom in population and made the local councils richer.

In some instances, even the dog catchers from the private dog catching companies managed a thriving ‘release for money’ side business. This is not what MDDB wants.

Currently, most people believe that the answer to helping strays is to catch all dogs and lock them up in shelters. This is so wrong.

We receive messages daily from people asking us to ‘rescue’ entire packs of dogs from the neighbourhoods.

Hence, we have to reinvent ourselves. Henceforth, we will continue to care for our almost 300 dogs until their final days and will not do much of active rescuing unless the dogs are seriously injured and mangled.

HOWEVER, we will be supporting independent rescuers and feeders, who practice TNRM, by way of fund raising as well as organising events and adoption drives for them.

This is one way we can reduce the number of strays on the streets.

Only those who rescue and bail out from pounds to neuter, release and manage will be eligible for MDDB support 100 %.

We STRICTLY do not condone rescuing, bailing out and hoarding in substandard shelters as we know how many dogs die after ‘rescue’ which the general public is not aware off.

We will also help with Online adoptions which we may also list in the media to help you get your rescued puppies and kittens adopted. Our physical adoption drives will also be open to you.

Since we are a little OCD, we will be streamlining our posts this way:

MONDAY – PUPPIES AND DOGS ADOPTION POSTS

TUESDAY – KITTENS AND CATS ADOPTION POSTS

WED – FOOD SUPPORT POSTS FOR INDEPENDENT RESCUERS WHO PRACTICE TNRM

THURS – NEUTERING SUPPORT POSTS FOR INDEPENDENT RESCUERS AND FEEDERS WHO PRACTICE TNRM

If you want us to put up you rescues for adoption, please send us clear pics, with details as well as contact number to : mddbadoption@gmail.com

If you need help with bailouts, neutering or food aid for TNRM dogs – please write to mddbtnrmaid@gmail.com

Thank you and let us know what you think of this plan and we ask you to please continue helping us care for our sanctuary and half-way-home dogs. Thank you.

Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better

Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better is a canine welfare programme initiated by non-profit organisation Community Development and Integration Initiative (CDII).

MDDB's main activities revolve around rescuing dogs from the local council pounds as well as off the streets. Once they have been rescued, the dogs are vaccinated and neutered before being put up for adoption.
