Pups in need of forever homes

All the dogs that will be up for adoption have been given their vaccinations.

ABOUT a month ago, canine welfare project Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) received an urgent appeal to rescue a mother dog that had given birth in an open area.

“We immediately arranged a rescue operation,” said MDDB adoption coordinator Christine Lai.

“The mother and puppies are now with us,” she said.

“Last week, MDDB received another appeal to rescue a mother dog that had littered on a pavement near Banting, Selangor.

“Sadly, there is no space for the mother and her puppies at the shelter, and efforts to look for a foster home are ongoing.

“We are very packed as the puppies of another dog we rescued more than four months ago are still with us,” she explained.

Needing space desperately, MDDB will be putting the older puppies up for adoption on Sunday at The Square, Jaya One, Petaling Jaya from 11am to 6pm.

“All the puppies have been given their vaccinations and they are ready to go to their forever homes,” said Lai.

There will be several other puppies at the drive, and she hopes to see some 15 to 20 of them adopted.

She urged feeders to reach out to rescue groups or initiate a spay-and-neuter exercise for the dogs they feed.

“Please look into neutering them so that mothers will not be littering on the streets.

“Not all the puppies are lucky enough to be rescued, most die horrible deaths a few days after birth,” she added.

Lai said because of the increasing number of dogs rescued, MDDB was in dire need of canned dog food and kibble.

She hoped that well-wishers would generously donate kibble at the adoption drive.

“We are running critically short of dog food. Please help us feed our dogs,” she appealed.

Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better

Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better is a canine welfare programme initiated by non-profit organisation Community Development and Integration Initiative (CDII).

MDDB's main activities revolve around rescuing dogs from the local council pounds as well as off the streets. Once they have been rescued, the dogs are vaccinated and neutered before being put up for adoption.
