Happy World Reef Day Ever Wondered What Pictures W..

Happy World Reef Day! Ever wondered what pictures we get from a scientific marine expedition?

Here are a couple of photos from a 26-day expedition in Tun Mustapha Park (TMP). 10 divers from WWF-Malaysia, Sabah Parks, Banggi Coral Conservation Society and Kudat Turtle Conservation Society carried out 72 Reef Check surveys at 52 sites within the park, contributing to global efforts to determine broad-scale trends of how our reefs are changing over time.

The findings help resource managers as they develop actions to effectively manage TMP – uniquely managed as a multi-use site.

Monitoring the status of the reefs provides crucial understanding on the impacts of management practices, and the reefs’ resilience against (and recovery from) accelerating, human-induced environmental changes. Through knowledge sharing, we are able to adapt and employ better management practices that build stronger and resilient habitats for the communities to withstand the impacts of climate change.
