Yes, We Have A Blacklist

We have a blacklist, and this is because our funds come from donations from the public and it is our duty to ensure that the money is used wisely and correctly and all for the animals.

So, who is on our blacklist?

Previously, when we had panel vets and we used to sponsor up to 100%:

1. Those who have quarreled with our vets.
2. Those who do not pick up their animals after a procedure.
3. Those who promised to pay us back (when they lumped food and other accessories into the bill) but do not honour their word.

Now that we work on a subsidy scheme:

1. Those who lie and cheat (if we have evidence).
2. Those who do not bother to acknowledge payment received.

Why (2)? It seems such a small thing, doesn’t it? Well, that’s because there is a lot of paper work to do for each claim and I can only close a case and file it up after the recipient has acknowledged that payment has been received. Otherwise the case is left hanging and I need to close the accounts every month and it is audited.

And what about those who are actually wealthy but apply for our subsidy? What about key persons in other organisations who apply for our subsidy when their organisations also have funds or they too do their own fundraising? �Well, that’s a difficult scenario as I do not know how their organisation works or how much funds they have, so for these cases, I’ll leave it to the applicant’s conscience and go by “I hope you can sleep peacefully at night 20 years from now”.

Ultimately, it is the animals who are helped.

P.S. If anyone wishes to start a medical fund, I’d highly recommend using our subsidy scheme model. It saves you LOTS of headache compared to our previous panel vet system. Under the subsidy scheme, you only pay out when there is an original receipt, photograph and the applicant’s details. This ensures that the vet is already paid (by the rescuer) and there is no IOU. Remember we are the ones doing the charity, not the vets. If the vets offer a discount, we are thankful. If they don’t, we cannot demand. And we should certainly NOT owe them money. I have met vets who said they are “frightened” of rescuers because rescuers do not pay bills. Or, some have even refused to entertain rescuers now because of their demanding attitude (demanding for discounts for everything AND telling the vet what SHOULD be done). This paints a bad reputation for rescuers, and when this happens, the animals suffer. Who do we go to when our animals are sick, if the vets do not wish to entertain us anymore?
