Globally, Tigers In The Wild Are Threatened With E..

Globally, tigers in the wild are threatened with extinction.

We are saddened to hear that three critically endangered Sumatran tigers were found killed by snares. Read more here: https://news.sky.com/story/indonesia-three-sumatran-tigers-killed-after-getting-caught-in-traps-as-numbers-dwindle-to-about-400-12598673

Poaching remains the greatest threat to wild tigers. Our anti-poaching teams are constantly on the move, seeking and deactivating snares in the vast forest of Belum-Temengor.

A nationwide survey conducted by PERHILITAN from 2016 to 2020 revealed that we now are left with fewer than 150 Malayan tigers, from 3,000 in the 1950s.

It is a race against time and if these snares are left undiscovered, we risk losing our remaining wild tigers and other wildlife.

Encouragingly, the National Tiger Task Force was established in Malaysia last year, chaired by the Prime Minister. This Task Force is mandated to set the tiger recovery plan in motion, with the Wildlife Crime Bureau under the Royal Malaysia Police Force to bolster enforcement efforts.

Camera trap images of tigers recorded in 2020 and 2021 give us hope that we can indeed turn the tide of extinction. But for that to happen, we must immediately take serious and proactive actions. Share the urgency and support all efforts to protect our Malayan tiger.

The time to act is now. We need all hands on deck and raise our voices for tigers. Please support WWF-Malaysia’s tiger conservation efforts, visit wwf.org.my/tiger Thank you.
