To mitigate the devastating impacts of forest fires, WWF-Malaysia is collaborating with the Sabah Forestry Department (SFD), Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC), Universiti Putra Malaysia’s (UPM) Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP) and Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) to organise the XFire Innovation Challenge.

For the past four years, participants from diverse backgrounds have come up with innovative technological ideas to suppress large wildfires. A grand prize of USD 100,000 will be awarded to the team with the most innovative and efficient solution.

The winning team will make their mark in history by transforming firefighting in remote forests.

Ultimately, the XFire Challenge seeks to reduce deforestation, carbon emission, respiratory health issues and economic loss caused by forest fires and resultant haze.
