Dear all,

As you all know we practice direct transfers to all our vet clinics, contractors, food suppliers and pharmaceutical products. We also provide all the details of these vendors.

This is done as part of our intention to be transparent and accountable. However, being open leaves us with little or no money in our coffers to pay other requirements such as rental for our half way home, utilities and workers allowances.

We have a total of 13 workers and paid volunteers. This includes 10 foreigners and three locals. In order to ensure that rescued dogs are in the pink of health, the sanctuary and half-way-home is clean and stink free, dogs are fed-nourishing cooked food and bathed weekly as well as given the needed veterinary check-ups and treatment – we need all these people around.

MDDB believes that dogs should be neutered and allowed to remain in the original places if we cannot give them a better life. MDDB is against caging dogs regardless in cages or small enclosures and that’s why we need these workers.

We have been around for a very long time and are tired with achy and aging bones. Our days of carrying out heroic escapades are long over and what we do now is take in dogs that are badly mangled and injured that are rescued off the streets by our volunteers or well-wishers and give them a grand life until the end of their lives..

We want to maintain our transparency and accountability and hence will continue practicing our direct transfer method as well as tell you whom you are paying. There has been and still is far too much dishonesty in the animal rescue world and encouraging this sort of transparency and accountability is the way to move forward.

MDDB is also trying hard to establish a business and this is taking time to move towards our plans to be self-sustainable.

All the reserve funds we have is the remaining RM43,000 out of the RM63,000 that was willed to us by a medical specialist from JB. My she rest in peace.

We are trying very hard to not touch this money in case there arises a big emergency. But given that being open, honest and transparent is bad for the budget and had rendered us broke and struggling to pay our monthly commitments – we hope you will understand and kindly help us make ends meet.

It is already the 28th and we are still very very short. Please help if you are able to.

Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better

Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better is a canine welfare programme initiated by non-profit organisation Community Development and Integration Initiative (CDII).

MDDB's main activities revolve around rescuing dogs from the local council pounds as well as off the streets. Once they have been rescued, the dogs are vaccinated and neutered before being put up for adoption.
