Our tough and dedicated anti-poaching team
This is just one of our 15 anti-poaching teams on the ground, manoeuvering through the jungle in search of snares. Each team comprises 5 skilled Orang Asal rangers.
“How many kilometres can a patrol team cover in a day?”, we asked Azlan, Tiger Protection and Monitoring Manager, who himself has been on such treks many times.
“It depends on a few factors such as the challenges of the terrain, the thickness of the forest, or whether they have rivers to cross. If there is an old path through the jungle, they can cover quite far. But if it is really thick jungle, it could be anywhere from 2 to 5 km a day,” he shared.
Look at what they go through daily for 2 weeks non-stop, these teams are tough as nails. They carry cooking pots too on their backpacks. Such is the dedication of our wildlife warriors!
