Protect tiger habitat by increasing forest cover in Peninsular Malaysia
We have been consistently advocating for the protection of Malayan tigers and their habitats. As an apex predator, this species requires vast natural habitat. While Taman Negara, Belum-Temengor Forest Complex and Endau Rompin provide core conservation areas, unfortunately these are not enough.
Throughout the years, together with our partners and supporters, we have been actively lobbying for the increase of forest cover to protect tigers and their habitats. It took time and effort, but we are starting to see encouraging results and responses from decision-makers.
On 10 January, the Prime Minister chaired the first meeting of the National Tiger Conservation Task Force (MyTTF) in Putrajaya. Among other things, MyTTF agreed to increase the current forest cover in Peninsular Malaysia from 43.41% to 50% by 2040, in line with the Fourth National Physical Plan.
The increase in forest cover will tremendously help tiger conservation efforts. This is only the beginning and we will continue working hard towards achieving this end.
Conservation requires a whole nation approach and we appreciate your continued support as we rally for the Malayan tiger. 💪
