That Fateful Flood Friday Evening 17th December 20..

That fateful flood Friday evening (17th December 2021), just as the downpour began, a volunteer came across an injured stray cat at her condominium premises in Puchong. The stray cat who is known as Freyja, is one of the managed stray cats at the premises previously trapped by our member for spaying. It was immediately apparent that the poor girl needed urgent medical attention as she couldn’t walk, though was attempting to, dragging her hind legs behind her and was in obvious pain.

The volunteer in attendance doesn’t have a car so it meant attempting to get a Grab that would take a cat with the added hindrance of the, by now, very heavy rain. By the time they arrived at our panel vet it was emergency fee time to boot!

Following pain relief, an x-ray revealed a hairline fracture to the pelvis and immediate surgery was initially advised to prevent arthritic complications later. However, the surgeon at this panel vet was on long leave, necessitating another Grab dash in the rain (shout out to kind Grab drivers who accept pets in secure carriers on prior notice!) to another 24-hour animal hospital several kilometres away where there was a long wait outside. The eventual second opinion was not to operate, but 3-months cage rest and medication required for the fracture to heal. However, they had no room at the inn for boarding/monitoring so rainy Grab again it was, back to the original vet!

Freyja has been receiving treatment at our panel vet for the past 2.5 weeks and is gradually starting to put weight on the leg. She unfortunately also developed flu symptoms during her hospitalisation, including pronounced phlegm, so needed additional medications for that too. Volunteers will continue with her twice-daily, anti-inflammatory and pain relief medications in an onsite cage for the rest of the 3 months she needs to be confined to best aid her recovery. They will also ensure her sons, Thor and Thom, who are also resident stray cats in the same premises, get to visit her to reacquaint themselves and aid her eventual rehabilitation back with them in their territorial corner of the premises.

Thank you Lemon for fully sponsoring Freyja’s vet bill for emergency consultation, X-Ray, medical treatments, medications and 2.5 week’s hospitalisation.
