Twinning is a rare event with orangutans (Pongo spp.), especially in captivity, and even more rare in the wild. In the wild, 🦧 mothers with twins are even more vulnerable. Holding two babies simultaneously is challenging for the mother due the twins’ conflicting clinging position.
Moreover, mothers have to find more food to produce extra 🍼 milk to feed their pair.
