Bornean 🦧 Orangutans are lowland specialists. They are rarely found in elevations higher than 500m above sea level. In 1950s, they’re found across Borneo, about ~255,000 km2 of 🗾 land.

The sharp decline of Bornean 🦧 population are due to clearing, degradation and fragmentation of their habitats, and hunting, although hunting is rare. Since the ‘50s, until 2010, Bornean 🦧 numbers decreased by more than 60% and projected to decline another 22% in the next 15 years.
