A Brave Volunteer Speaks Of Her Experience At Second Chance

Hyon Sim is also from HELP Institute. Here’s what she has to say about her experience at the shelter.
Hi, my name is Hyon Sim and I am from Korea.
At first when I got to the Second Chance, which is behind the Wisma Buddist , my feet started to shake and I felt very scary because I was afraid of dogs. I have never touched a dog before and every time when I see dogs it just made me scared. Anyhow, being with dogs wasnt very easy for me. Every time when dogs passed by, jumped or barked made me nervous. I couldnt even dare to move. However, I got inside and started going the work. Our first task was to assemble the cage for dogs. And we took photos while working which was kind of fun but also made us wet. After this we have started to bath the dogs. As I was afraid of dogs I couldnt bath so the other friends did it and I took some photos of dogs and look at it. But the most surprising thing was the dogs was listening to them, actually they understand the dogs and its like they were communicating to each other. I think they really like us giving bath because they are also mammals. Finally bathing 20 or more dogs ended and started to clean the floors. But I manage to do it and I last succeeded to bare myself not to be scared of dogs and I think they liked me. And from working I learned a lot. Work at the shelter is not easy and people who work with it every day must be very tiring and as there are also feeding, cleaning, giving medicine to them and so on. I think they are really brave. Once again I want to say is that nothing can be done easily, we must be patient and we must love dogs as without it we cannot work with dogs and we must love them if all our hearts.
