29th Jun 2011, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

We regret that Singapore Airlines has refused to confirm if it will ship the RWS' wild-caught dolphins if they do come... We will continue to engage them and hope they will decline to be the airline responsible for transporting the 25 wild-caught dolphins from the Philippines to Singapore should they be approached by RWS.

THE report ('No more culling of cats in Chong Pang'; June 19) stated that 'in a suggestion that drew a few laughs, an advocate for shark conservation said government-organised banquets should stop serving shark's fin soup'.

Winnie Pup's Adoption!
29th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

From Koo:Dear Dr Chan,Winnie the pup has been adopted after a month of fostering.  After being born into an uncertain future and only knowing life under a container, she and her family were finally rescued after many appeals from Azimah their guardian angel.  When I first contacted you about Winnie for a vet visit, she was very weak and I initially thought she was paralysed since she couldn't walk after she was rescued. But with lots of loving foster care, she ...

From Gingershells To Popsicles (the 5 Kittens)
29th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

Nandhini offered to foster the 5 kittens that were dumped in front of my gate in a styrofoam box 2 weeks ago.  I've been in contact with Nandhini daily on their progress after they were discharged from the vet's.  Initially, they all had diarrhoea (really watery type) and the flu.  After the vet declared them to be "well enough", he advised that they should be taken out of the clinic environment as soon as possible.  So, Nandhini brought them home.  This would be Nandhin...

Wii's Secret Is Out!!
28th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

Wii was one of my rescued cats.  More than a year ago, my alphas (Cow and Bunny) started chasing poor Wii out into the alley, and Wii's constant mewing there incurred the wrath of my back neighbour who threatened Wii in very frightening ways.  Long story cut short, I asked Roselin if Wii could live with her (for his own safety from my wrathful neighbour) and Roselin took Wii in.  Ever since living with Roselin, Wii has not been able to get along with any of Roselin's cats.  R...

Shh...goodnight, Chewie...sleep Well
28th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

From Lina:We gave Chewbacca more water to drink, but she is still very weak.  Angie, Zax, Doris and Hebi (Christine) have been here since we left.  Now, just "sayang"ing her while she sleeps on the hot-pack.It's so heart-warming to know that five young people are so keen on looking after one little stray kitten.  As our vet said, "this kitten is so lucky!"Yes, life is not about how long we live, but how much love we can give and if we're lucky, how much we are privileged to receiv...

Mum-Dog And 3 Female Pups For Adoption
28th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

A request from my cousin, Lian:Attached are photos of a mother dog and her three female pups (by now about three months) belonging to my neighbour. The father is a rottweiler/mongrel. Would appreciate it if you could place them for adoption on your website. One pup has a normal tail, another one has a curly pigtail, and the last one has absolutely no sign of a tail. Very strange, but there you go. Mum is not spayed and none have been vaccinated. The owner's name is Ah Mooi and her telephone numbe...

Chewie Has A Home Now
28th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

CP was there at the clinic to send Chewie off to her new home.  CP managed to give some energy healing to Chewie before she went off.  According to her, Chewie is weak, but is definitely a fighter.  She even stood up in the box when Lina drove off.  Like a true-blue Chewbacca!I just texted Lina and Lina says Chewie seems very comfortable inside her own cage now.  That's good.  Maybe Chewie knows she is in her forever home now so she is happy and can finally rest com...

This mama-cat has quite a story to begin with.  Not knowing that she had just delivered, Amy Thum had caught her one night and got her spayed.  Later, the mama-cat brought her litter of two kittens right up to Amy's doorstep as though asking for shelter.Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011 /05/what-smart-mother-cat.htmlFlashback: The smart mama-cat and her kittens in Amy's apartment (May 1, 2011)Later, Amy got the mama and both kittens adopted and all was well until a few weeks a...

Chewie Goes Home
28th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

I went to the clinic again later this afternoon.  We had another new case there so I had to discuss the prognosis with the vet.  Also, I was very anxious to check on Chewie. Christine and her friends (Jax, Doris and adopter, Lina) were all there. They were taking turns to provide comfort and encouragement to Chewie. Here's the thing, explains the vet...Chewie could actually go home already because there is no reason for her to stay in the clinic.  If Lina and her friends ...

Please Pray For Chewie (possible Blood Parasite Infection)
28th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

I reached the clinic after work today and was told Chewie is not doing very well.  She has suddenly become very pale this morning, and the vet suspects that it may be due to a blood parasite which had been in existence in her body, but is now manifesting and causing an infection.  The course of action is to stop the earlier antibiotics (meant for the lungs and the wound in the paw) and start her on Baytril and Doxycycline, the latter of which is very effective against the blood parasit...

A Tussle Over Ownership (a Story From Japan)...and Goldie's Story
28th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

An anonymous person thought I should share this story, which is good for all of us to reflect upon:http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/world/re turn-our-dogs-tepco-demands/story-e6frg6so-1226083 034104I suppose this is a question of ownership:Who owns the animals, actually? My thoughts would be this: None of us own the animals.  We are merely caregivers who have taken the responsibility of looking after them (as best as we humanly and humanely can) because we think they need our help.&...
