Words Of Wisdom For The Weekend 22nd Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
Now that Stuart is at least alright, I need to unwind a bit before going back to my final-exams-marking marathon....I thought there is so much wisdom in this:Old age is the most unexpected of all the things that can happen to us. – Leon TrotskyWhen the first grey hair appears on our head, it is a critical juncture in life. We go to the mirror with a sinking feeling of dread and try to pluck out the evidence – one here, two there. But the more we pull out, the more seem ...

Happy Updates On Stuart!! (he Is Fine) 22nd Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
When I received the sms from Punitha just now, I held my breath.....Forwarded sms from the fosterer, Kak Azah:Good morning. No worries. Stuart is doing fine. Already dewormed. He has not vomited since we brought him home. Will try to put him with mummy-cat tonight and see if she will accept him. If not, will continue syringe-feeding him with Milkodog. It's a good milk for kittens.Yay!!! I replied Punitha first to thank her for all her efforts. From yesterday until this morning, I have been...

Updates On 22nd Jul 2011 22nd Jul 2011, by SPCA Selangor
More and more cats and kittens are being dumped at SPCA, as the festive Raya season is just around the corner. If you know anyone who is planning to generously give their cats to us, please convince them not to as we struggle to rehome even 25% every month. Please get them neutered to prevent unwanted kittens, and try to rehome them yourself if you can't cope. SPCA should be the last resort, not first choice!

Pet Care Tip:
True or False - Carrots should be fed to rabbits everyday. The answer is FALSE! They really should only be fed carrots once or twice a week because of its high sugar content. For more information on what to feed rabbits, please visit http://www.hrss.net/aar/care/care_diet_faq.html

Foods Your Dog Should Never Eat 22nd Jul 2011, by Second Chance
Alcohol – Alcohol has the same effect on dogs’ liver and brain that it has on humans. But it takes far less to do its damage. Just a little can cause vomiting, diarrhea, central nervous system depression, problems with coordination, difficulty breathing, coma, even death. And the smaller the dog, the greater the effect.Onions and garlic – onions and garlic can destroy a dog's red blood cells, leading to anemia.Coffee, tea and other caffeinated substances - Caffeine in large enough quantiti...

Musk Lorikeet – Australian Parrot 22nd Jul 2011, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal
The hardest part of my job as a vet is accepting euthanasia as a viable option for a healthy animal that an owner no longer wants. It does not get easier when it is a geriatric pet in excellent shape that has a manageable condition like arthritis. I unfortunately have not been able to save everything because physically I could simply not. But all those times i had to be passive when multiple kittens were being put down, I lost a little piece of my heart. I felt like an accomplice in a crime I de...

Taiwan Does A First...for The Sharks 22nd Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
If there is one personal request I would make to people who want to hold Chinese dinners, it has always been this - Please, please, please do not order sharks' fins soup. I think most people have seen the horrendous ways sharks are "finned", ie. have their fins lopped off and thrown back into the sea to die a torturous death by drowning. Granted, cruelty exists in all slaughterhouses, and this is just one more way of how humans torture animals for the sake of satisfying the pleasures of the...

Please Pray For Stuart 22nd Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
There was another frantic search for fosterers for Stuart today as Devi relented this morning when she saw that Stuart was really going down. To cut a long story short, Stuart is now with Kak Azah, a cat rescuer and fosterer who has had a lot of experience in nursing kittens. Kak Azah says Stuart is alert and active and we now pray that the little fellow will pull through. Apparently, the milk powder used by Devi was baby formula. It is normally recommended that kittens be given kitt...

She Will Survive Without A Nose 21st Jul 2011, by Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better
We are happy to say that the dog whose nose had been looped off is doing well. Thanks to our excellent vets. Since we we off to Semenyih today to hunt for the prime suspect, we asked Animalcare's Dr Chan to do us a favour by visiting the doggie and taking some pics. We are happy with what we heard from Dr Chan as well as what we saw in the pictures. SHE WILL SURVIVE BECAUSE SHE IS A SURVIVOR! And we name her Citta which means "heart and soul" as suggested by Dr Chan because she has touched...

Injured Dog Needs Fosterer As Soon As Possible 21st Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
Myza has just rescued an injured 2-week old puppy. The puppy has a back injury and the vet has stitched her up. How the puppy came to be so is a sad case of tug-of-war between the mother of this puppy and another mother-dog who had just lost her newborn litter. This second mother-dog came to snatch the puppy away from her mother (probably thinking the puppy is hers) and the mother grabbed her puppy back resulting in a tug-of-war which almost ripped the puppy into two.The puppy's back is tor...

Super Bruno 21st Jul 2011, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal
Meet Bruno, the friendliest Maremma I have ever met. He is living proof that any breed of dog is capable of being well socialised! This champ is one of my fave patients.
He loves coming into the vet clinic and is usually busting with excitement to see everyone especially me because I have brain washed him with heaps of liver treats.
About a month and a half ago, I was called out afterhours to examine him as he was just hit by a car. His poor dad witnessed the whole thing. They brought him stra...
