Updates On Karuna (doing Well!)
11th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Here's Karuna, folks...According to the vets, she is doing as well as can be expected of such an old dog and one who was brought in in this state.  The daily cleaning of the bite wounds continues.  Karuna is still weak, but she is able to walk to a corner to poo, and the best news is that she has a great appetite! She looks pretty sad...poor thing.  I suppose that's how an old dog feels when she has no proper home or people to love her.  The bullying and attack by the pack of ...

Why Neuter Your Dog?
11th Jul 2011, by SPCA Sarawak

Why Neuter Your Dog?Dr. Lila Miller, D.V.M., ASPCAMale dogs and cats mark territory by spraying urine. This is especially true of cats, whose urine has a very strong odor. Neutering eliminates the odor and markedly reduces the incidence of urine spraying. It is most effective when performed before marking starts, but will often work even after the marking has become a habit.Neutering eliminates the occurrence of testicular cancer.Neutering markedly reduces the incidence of benign hyperplasia of ...

RESCUE IN PUNCAK JALIL
11th Jul 2011, by Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better

Shiema posted on our FB page the other day about 2 mother dogs and their respective pups and that some of the pups had been run over. We planned to initiate the rescue and this took some time but luckily Mikheala and Reco have volunteered to oversee the rescue project. They had gone to the site on Saturday and surveyed place and spoke to the person who was feeding the dogs. After collecting cages from us at Summit, they went to the the place at midnight to catch the dogs and pups to be sent to K...

Congratulations To All Pikachus And Tweety Birds!
11th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

I continue to be awed and inspired by all our brave and heroic yellow-coloured friends and even though this is a blog about animals, I'll make an exception and pay tribute to them all.  The reason you see fewer postings here is because I'm still reading all the touching and inspiring Bersih stories on the Net!  Perhaps the animals would also benefit when we have more caring and righteous leaders.  Perhaps we can then push for no-kill at the pounds and CNRM on the streets and we wo...

Peek-A-Boo!
10th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Eh...who's this? Why, it's Cow the Mau!Cow has been extremely "cooperative" with our medicine-feeding endeavours in the last two days.  Today has been extremely smooth-sailing.  He actually came to us asking to be caught so that he could take his medicine....would you believe that?He allows us to plonk him into the carrier, and takes his medicines (two pills) without any fuss whatsoever.  Then, we heap praises on him and he gets a generous serving of Fussie Cat.But now, I thi...

Updates On Karuna, The Old Dog
10th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

In the midst of having so much to do and what with the historic Bersih Rally on Saturday (been reading all the inspiring and touching stories of true unity), I forgot to post updates on Karuna, the old dog rescued after being bitten by a pack of wild dogs at the playground near the temple.  I visited Karuna on Friday after work and she seemed much better.  I took photos too, but they turned out too dark as the lights had fused in the boarding area.  The vet said they will proceed ...

Koda And Winter, Two White Cats For Adoption
10th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Koda and Winter go back a long way with rescuer, Punitha.  They are both adorable and....white (we know certain colours go more easily - that's reality).Koda is 4 months old and will be neutered soon.  Winter is 7 months and already neutered.  Both are males.  Both are also toilet-trained (litter - sand).  They know how to use the scratch-post and are therefore "furniture safe"!  Koda and Winter are sociable (not timid around strangers) and friendly around other cat...

Health Benefits Of Spaying And Neutering
10th Jul 2011, by Second Chance

Some pet owners are not aware of the advantages of spaying or neutering their pet. A spayed or neutered pet does not become fat or lazy. Their metabolism may slow down a bit but all you have to do to keep that trim look is cut back a little on the food. In addition to the obvious advantage of preventing unwanted pregnancies, there are health and behavioral benefits:1) Spaying or neutering is foolproof birth control that lasts a lifetime.2) Spaying or neutering provides relief from such hormone d...

Cow Mau, The Pussy-Cat...sometimes!
10th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Thank you, everyone, for writing in to offer tips on how to give the COW a pill.  We only lost one round on Day 4, but regained our "seat" of success in the afternoon that.  The carrier trick still works.  He's such a pussy-cat when we put him into the carrier, and he takes his pills, after a few efforts!  Yesterday, he was almost in a most sorry state when he did not come in for breakfast with the rest, but sat in the living room, looking really forlorn.  Poor Cow....14...

And Kimba Is Adopted Too!
10th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Nandhini's phone had been ringing almost non-stop ever since I put up the posting on Kimba.  A total of NINE people have offered to either foster or adopt the cute little blue-point kitten who was rescued from the middle of the road.  The first to call in was Sharon, minutes after my posting was up.  After vetting through all the potential offers, Nandhini decided to let Sharon adopt Kimba since she has children who love pets and can play with Kimba, and Sharon also has a poodle, ...

A Reflection On Queenie's Case
9th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

There is a comment on our posting on Queenie's unfortunate passing after being spayed.  The commentor suggested that the animals be boarded at the vet's instead of being discharged.  When we first started, I did ask for boarding, but our vets advised against this due to the following reasons:1.  There is no 24-hour monitoring at their clinics.  Most clinics close at 7pm and the animals are left on their own through the night.  The clinics only open at about 10am the next...
