Mrs Lim's Dog Spayed 5th May 2011, by AnimalCare
Mrs Lim contacted me about 2-3 months ago about getting this female dog whom she's been feeding spayed. The dog was sent to our panel vet and found to be pregnant so we had to delay the spaying.Last week she called to say the dog had already delivered and is ready to be spayed now. The dog was quite nervous when brought to the clinic this morning. She was obviously very scared. Two vets had to hold her down, and quickly sedate her and the surgery was performed immediately. ...

Aini And Her Cats 5th May 2011, by AnimalCare
Aini is a cat-rescuer from USJ. She contacted me last week to ask if we could help with the spaying of the female stray cats under her care. I told her we would help get her cats spayed in batches of two per day. This is done so that it would not tax on our panel vets so much. We have to respect the fact that our vets run their own practice and cannot be doing so many of our cases each day. So, Aini brought two cats today. Both were spayed under our s...

The 3:3:3:1 Ratio In Helping Animals 5th May 2011, by AnimalCare
Here's sharing something else that I've learnt recently, which I think, makes sense and might be useful for us to consider. Many rescuers have their own thoughts and beliefs about how best to help animals. I think the opinion below, which I learnt from a vet, makes a lot of sense. There is this 3:3:3:1 ratio involved when it comes to helping animals.30% - what the vet can do.30% - what the caregiver can do (and this includes lots of love and tender loving care).30% - what medicine can do.10%...

Of Miracle Drugs For Humans And Animals 4th May 2011, by AnimalCare
Thought it might be useful to share this with all of you. I learnt this from a vet today.Vets, being people of science, normally prefer to adhere to research-tested medicines. However, currently, there is a whole industry of "miracle drugs", for humans as well as animals and it is practically revolutionising the whole world of medicine. These miracle drugs are usually founded upon testimonies from users and not properly-conducted research. Having said that, it does not me...

From A Teacher At Tenby International 4th May 2011, by AnimalCare
A teacher from Tenby International, Mrs Ching, wrote to me recently to request for my books for her students. Here's an excerpt from her email to me:I noticed pin drop silence in my class this morning during registration, when I looked up from the register, I realised that most of them were reading your books. They really like your books. One of my children, Nicholas Thomas Philip has decided to adopt a stray kitten from one of my colleagues who is going back to New Zealand soon. Tasha, my collea...

Horsey has been recovering very well under the loving care of Lydia. She's so well that she is already running around on all threes, to the extent of trying to escape through the drain! Horsey bit off her stitches two days ago, so Lydia sent her back for restitching and at the same time, the vet said she was also fit enough to be spayed.Yesterday, when I visited her at the vet's.The restitching and spaying was done last night and everything went like clockwork. In fact, 80% of the wo...

This is a request from Amy (0126895377):Hi Dr Chan, Thank you for your assistance with the hospital contact. I was having an early supper last nite with my bf and another friend at 8.30pm at Old Town Kopitiam Cyberjaya. It was raining and I heard a loud mewing sound from the carpark.
